Farm Fitness
Essex arable farmer’s son Tom is credited with building one of the world’s best gyms.
He took a dilapidated corner of the yard at the family farm and transformed it into a raw and exciting outdoor environment for people of all strengths and abilities.
“Farm Fitness is honoured to be partnering with Farmers Weekly to once again help in the hunt for Britain’s Fittest Farmer. It’s our ongoing mission to honour our agricultural roots, so this is a great privilege for us.
“I’m looking forward to seeing who’s been sowing their seeds and harvesting those gains over the past year.”
Charity partners
The Farming Community Network (FCN)
The Farming Community Network (FCN) is a voluntary organisation and charity that supports farmers and families within the farming community through difficult times.
The charity has helped thousands of people deal with a variety of issues, including financial difficulties, animal disease, mental health and family disputes. With a network of over 400 volunteers across England and Wales, many of whom are involved in farming, or have close links with agriculture, the charity has a great understanding of the issues that farmers, farm workers and farming families regularly face.
Volunteers provide free, confidential, pastoral and practical support to anyone who seeks help, regardless of whether the issue is personal or business-related. FCN also runs a confidential national helpline (03000 111 999) open 7am – 11pm every day of the year and an e-helpline (help@fcn.org.uk)
The Farm Safety Foundation
The Farm Safety Foundation is an independent registered charity based in the Midlands but working throughout the UK to preserve and protect both the physical and mental wellbeing of those living and working in the industry. (Registered Charity No. 1159000)
Agriculture accounts for 1% of the UK’s working population but 18% of all workplace deaths. Twenty-two farm workers and three members of the public (including a 9-year-old child) lost their lives on our farms in the past year according to the 2021/2022 HSE Fatal Injuries in Agriculture, Forestry & Fishing GB report.
With a target audience of young farmers (under the age of 40) the charity has devised, developed and delivered innovative farm safety and mental health training to over 20,000 young farmers at land-based colleges/universities throughout the UK and through the Young Farmers’ Clubs network.
The team also deliver Farm Safety Week and Mind Your Head two key focuses in the farming calendar and work with partners and stakeholders nationally and internationally, raising awareness of farm safety and poor mental health in the next generation of farmers in order to drive a reduction in the number of injuries and fatalities that continue to give agriculture the poorest safety record of any occupation in the UK.

The Royal Scottish Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RSABI)
RSABI supports people from Scottish agriculture emotionally, practically and financially in times of need. The service is available to those previously and currently involved in farming, crofting and occupations involved in agriculture in Scotland.
This is a comprehensive service to clients who are experiencing difficult times to enable them to move forward. Our helpline – 0300 111 4166 – is open every day of the year from 7am to 11pm and offers a call-out service for the lonely and vulnerable.
Emotional support is available through our helpline, case officers and volunteers, all of whom are mental health first aid trained. We listen, keep people safe and access professional support when required.
RSABI can access practical support such as, but not limited to, welfare benefits, business reviews, debt signposting, counselling and mediation services. We are happy to liaise with statutory agencies when required.
Our financial support can be for essential items including food, heating, counselling, disability aids, funerals, retraining and items for the home. Business costs will be considered to help overcome a short-term crisis. All requests will be considered.

Supporting the farming community
Britain's Fittest Farmer was launched by Farmers Weekly in 2018 as a fun and friendly way to get farmers thinking and talking about their physical and mental health, to make sure they are in top condition to run their business.
This year, we have partnered with three amazing charities and are asking for donations to support their incredible work within the farming industry:
The Farming Community Network: Supporting farmers and farming families through difficult times.
RSABI: Providing emotional, practical and financial support to families across the agricultural sector.
The Farm Safety Foundation: Raising awareness of farm safety among young farmers.
Your donation will be split equally between these three charities and your contribution will help spread awareness and directly support these amazing organisations – thank you.
