Stirling: Bumper Salers entry sees average back
Demand continued to grow for Salers cattle at Stirling on Monday (21 February) as the Cumbrian herd dominated trade and nine more bulls sold than at the pre-covid 2020 sale for a very strong clearance rate.
However, the 21 bulls that went under the hammer saw averages back on the year, with prices failing to match last year’s 9,500gns top call. This time, trade topped at 8,000gns for Cumbrian Price Poll from Tom Walling, Farmstock Genetics, Lindean, Selkirk.
The sale leader is by Parkfield Polled Napoleon and out of Cumbrian Hyacinth 661. He sold to pedigree breeder John Martin, Swinlees, Ayrshire.

Mr Walling was again in the money at 7,500gns for Cumbrian Pele, who is also by Napoleon. Pele is out of the Ideal daughter Cumbrian Hyacinth 885 and went home with G McClymont, Cuil, Newton Stewart.

Two then made 7,000gns. The first was Darnford Positive from David Watson, Darnford, Aberdeen. He is by Seawell Kitemark and out of Darnford Gracious. He sold to Livesey Farming’s Cleuchhead herd, Netherfirth, Melrose.
Matching this was Rednock Prada Poll from Gill and Malcolm Pye, Rednock Estate, Stirling. This is the last Rigel Munro son and he is out of Rigel Dior.
He went home with pedigree breeders JJ Macguire, Drumcannon, County Fermanagh.
The Scottish government bull stud, Inverness, paid 6,800gns for the Rigel Kurt son Drumsleed Panther from G and M Smith, Drumsleed, Laurencekirk.
Averages: 21 bulls (+9), £4,370 (-£486); 91% clearance (UA)
