New bulls transmit longer cow lifespan and better health
Three new headline bulls could be the key to improving daughter lifespan, robustness and general health and fitness in the herd.
The three bulls from Dairy Daughters – Bronco, Durable and Palmero – each transmit extra chest width and depth; low somatic cell counts; long lifespan and good daughter fertility. They each combine this with profitable milk production and hence score well for profitable lifetime index.
End-Road O-Man Bronco has an index of £201 placing him in 12 in this month’s DairyCo Bull Proofs. He features many of the traits for which his sire Oman is known, but with extra weight of milk (746kg) and considerably higher type (Type Merit +1.23). His daughters are also good framed cows with good leg set and udder conformation, along with outstanding traits for daughter fertility (+4.9) and Lifespan (+0.4).
Ronelee SS Durable is one of the highest red factor carriers in the world. He has a high type, solid production and outstanding fitness. His dam- Toneless Outside Dabble- is also beginning to attract world wide attention.
Glenn-Ann Palermo is the final leading fitness bull, whose PLI of £169 puts him high in the newly launched rankings. He is already the leading PLI Goldwyn son available to British breeders and is one of the highest type bulls in the recent rankings at +2.46 and has one of the highest scores for udders.
