Winter feed grant for hill farmers?

AGRICULTURE Minister Nick Brown may provide a grant for hard-pressed hill farmers to buy fodder over the winter months, according to unconfirmed reports.

Welsh farm leaders who met Mr Brown today (Wednesday) said the Minister told them he was examining the Irish Governments intention to provide fodder aid for farmers in Ireland.

Farmers Union of Wales President Bob Parry said Mr Brown had undertaken to investigate a similar scheme for sheep and beef farmers in the UK – but only if an Irish application for fodder aid meets with European Union approval.
