Welsh produce on show in London before Six Nations clash

Rugby fans in London for the mouthwatering Six Nations clash between England and Wales this weekend will be able to sample some of the away side’s finest food and drink.

Welsh producers will be offering tempting tasters to the public before the game at Twickenham on Saturday afternoon (26 February).

Sixteen businesses will be setting up shop at Ely’s Yard, just off Brick lane in East London, on Saturday and Sunday.

It is part of a Welsh government campaign, #LoveWalesLoveTaste, to celebrate and promote the country’s food and drink producers.

Hannah Turner, from Brooke’s Wye Valley Dairy Company, is attending. She said: “We are really looking forward to being part of the producers’ market.

“It is great that the Welsh government is supporting and promoting Welsh produce and giving us this opportunity to do so in London.”

Milk from the dairy’s 100 pedigree Jersey cows, which graze in the heart of the Wye Valley in south Wales, is used to make ice cream.

Other producers making the trip include the Conwy-based Coconut Kitchen, Black Mountain Roast from Hay-on-Wye, and Spirit of Wales Distillery from Newport.

The campaign will then move on to Liverpool for St David’s Day on Tuesday 1 March.

Welsh government rural affairs minister Lesley Griffiths said: “Welsh food and drink have always played a central role in St David’s Day celebrations, and coupled with Wales being in London to take on England, I am delighted our fantastic producers are once again able to show and share their wonderful produce.

“This is a great opportunity for people to head along to Ely’s Yard and sample the very best of food and drink from Wales.

“Further events are taking place to mark St David’s Day and I encourage everyone to take the time to meet our producers, try their produce and enjoy a very special day in the Welsh calendar.”
