Walk your cobwebs away in the unspoilt hills of Shropshire
BLOW away the cobwebs in the Shropshire Hills invites Jean Howells.
Join us for a walking weekend (Oct 22-24) in one of the most beautiful unspoilt counties in the country – Shropshire.
Our base will be the small market town of Church Stretton, nestling amongst the 6000 acres of 400m-year-old hills where even the names such as Cardingmill Valley, Caer Caradoc and Gog Batch conjure up wonderful places to explore.
We will be staying at the Belvedere Guest House where you will be able to abandon your motorcar and forget all your worries to concentrate on walking for pleasure. On Saturday morning a five-mile circular walk takes us up Ragleth Hill to see 360í views of stunning countryside. In the afternoon it is planned to go along Cardingmill Valley and climb up beside The Pike over to Batch Valley.
In the evening, dinner will be served at the guest house and it is hoped that we will meet some local FWC members.
On Sunday we start bright and early for the climb to the top of the Long Mynd, for a walk along the Portway before descending back to the National Trust café for a light lunch. Then it will be time to part company and get back to the real world.
The cost for two nights dinner, bed and breakfast is £70 for FWC members and £80 for other readers. The accommodation is comfortable and most rooms have en suite facilities. Be sure to book early as numbers are limited. Closing date for this offer is Oct 1.
