US apple shortfall could lift prices


A SHORTFALL in US apple production is expected to lift prices for the 1999-2000 marketing season, according to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The departments latest forecast for US apple production is 10.6 billion pounds (4.8m tonnes), 7% below last years crop and 3% below the average for the past five years.
