Upbeat trade at HF disperal
CHESHIRE saw yet another big herd dispersal when Park Mill Farms, Macclesfield, offered their herd of 404 head of pedigree and commercial Holstein Friesians.
The six hours of selling was shared by three auctioneers who described the trade as "upbeat", particularly for older, milky cows and freshly calved and springing heifers.
The average for 187 cows in-milk and dry was £626 – a satisfactory result considering 63 of them were in more than their fourth lactation.
Top price was £1150 given for a freshly calved heifer by Bellview Ned Boy Patent. Buyer was E Daniels, Altrincham.
In-calf heifers were led by an Oakridges Chief daughter due in August to Delta Lava. She made £1010 to R Blockley, Winsford, Cheshire.
Bulling heifers peaked at £490 for one by Crescentmead Lincoln. There was fierce competition for heifers under a year old which levelled at £390 for 141 head. (Frank R Marshall and Co)n
