Union to survey egg industry
EGG producers are to be surveyed to see what impact of the EUs Welfare of Laying Hens Directive is likely to have.
The NFU survey of its members, which will be conducted next month, will assess how producers businesses will be affected and what action they will take to comply.
The union hopes to use the information to identify key areas in which to concentrate its lobbying efforts.
Initial NFU estimates suggest that the legislation, which will affect cage sizes and stocking densities, will cost the industry at least £200m.
