Unigate seeks an extra 100m litres

DAIRY giant Unigate is searching for up to 100 million litres of milk to meet growing demand for farm-assured supplies, and replace producers lost to other buyers.

Potential suppliers must meet hygiene quality, animal welfare and farm appearance standards, the company says.

Unigates standard litre price is 19.222ppl plus up to 2.5ppl quality bonus. Seasonality payments range from +4ppl in July and August to -2ppl in April and May. Transport charges are £9.50 to £14 a collection.

Unigates head of agricultural affairs, Brian Pocock, said: “We would not be embarrassed by an extra 100m litres.” The company is working on a scheme allowing smaller producers to transport their own milk.
