Two out of three unable to say
TWO days before the deadline by which an appeal must be lodged at the High Court, two of the three law firms associated with the failed judicial review were unable to confirm whether they would back an appeal.
Welsh firm Gabb and Co is considering supporting an appeal, said partner Glyn Maddocks. "We all feel strongly that the court (hearing the judicial review) got it wrong. Its a crazy situation; the judgement was that this (the decision on whether to hold a public inquiry) was a political decision and it (the court) was unwilling to get involved in politics."
"If the government loses in the court of appeal, its sure to spend taxpayers money taking the case to the House of Lords."
No one from law firm Burges Salmon was able to comment.
Meanwhile a spokeswoman for the BBC supported calls for a public inquiry, said: "The BBC is no longer part of the legal action."
Asked why the corporation was unwilling to back an appeal, the spokeswoman replied: "Im not willing to say any more than that."
