Texmati rice courts controversy

RICETEC Inc of Texas has developed a new high-yield strain of basmati rice which, with the help of chemicals will grow in the USA.

It has patented the strain and wants to sell it in the UK under the Texmati name. It is feared it will damage exports from India and Pakistan.

Now the Indian government is trying to have the US patent revoked and to oppose the registering of Texmati in the UK.
