SSC wants maternal BSE transmission investigated

FURTHER investigation into the possible maternal transmission of BSE is necessary before the export ban on British beef can be lifted, according to the European Union scientific steering committee.

Only the first generation of cohorts is involved in the selective cull, but the committee now wants “an evaluation” on the whole descendant line.

To date almost 65,000 head have been taken out through the selective cull.
