A BID by hunt supporters in the National Trust to elect Tory MP Nicholas Soames to its ruling council have failed, reports The Daily Telegraph.
Mr Soames polled 55,351 votes from the trusts 2.7m members. The lowest scoring of the nine candidates elected polled 70,496 votes.
Hunt supporters hoped that former minister Mr Soames would have persuaded the trust to drop its ban on stag hunting on its land.
