SECOND CHANCE TO WIN A 110hp VALMET 8050 TRACTOR

Heres your second chance to win a 110hp Valmet 8050 tractor worth £43,800 in our

autumn competition. Study the text over the next four weeks and pick your priorities

THE Valtra Valmet Mega range of six cylinder tractors consists of five models, but it is the 110hp 8050 which has proved to be the most popular with British farmers. Manufactured in Finland, Valmet tractors look conventional enough. But along with a reputation for engineering excellence the Finns also have a flair for design innovation which is why, on closer investigation, the layout of their tractors is a little unusual.

To help provide the correct balance for four-wheel drive operation all Valmet tractors have the engine placed well forward over the front axle while the transmission and hydraulics are located below the cab to ensure the rear wheels do their fair share of the work.

Now comes the interesting bit. The engine and transmission/

hydraulics are joined by a strong, folded steel fuel tank, an arrangement that provides the right balance for four-wheel drive operation without the use of excessive front weight. Should weight be required for heavy draft operations it may be simply added. Its impossible to remove designed-in weight for weight sensitive operations.

As with all Valmet models the 8050 is powered by a Valmet-designed and manufactured engine providing good torque, fuel efficiency and ultra low emissions. With the clutch fitted to the engine, power to the transmission and PTO is taken via drive shafts through the top half of the &#42 section fuel tank. The front axle drive shaft is housed in the lower section. The standard Delta Powershift transmission has 36 forward and reverse gears. A 12×12 transmission is available as an option.

In the cab, three gearshift levers provide forward and reverse, high, medium or low ranges and the four gears in each range. The three Delta Powershift speeds are selected by a button which is duplicated on each gearshift lever for convenience of operation.

Hydraulic power is supplied by a 74 litres/min pump operating at 190bar, providing a linkage lift capacity of 5600kg throughout the lift arc. Two double/single acting spool valves are fitted as standard with provision for a further two if required.

A number of PTO options are available. Standard is 540 at 1874 eng rpm and 1000 at 2080 eng rpm while 540 and 750 (540 economy) is optional. Ground speed and an extra heavy duty 1000 speed are also available.

Standard tyre equipment is 16.9R38 and 13.6R28 but a wide range of alternative agricultural and specialist tyres are available for all operations including forestry.

Entry to the 8050s roomy cab is easy from both left and right with operating controls grouped conveniently to the drivers right. With the exhaust mounted alongside the cab pillar and the air cleaner located below the sloping bonnet vision in all directions is excellent. The small, sporty, fully adjustable steering wheel is light to use and provides an excellent view of dashboard information.
