Scottish flood-hit farmers can apply to £100,000 Rsabi fund

Scottish farmers and crofters affected by the recent heavy rainfall and flooding can now apply for support from the Royal Scottish Agricultural Benevolent Institution (Rsabi), as the rural charity announces a new £100,000 fund.

Farmers who have sustained serious losses or damage are encouraged to apply to the Flooding Fund by completing an online application form, which can be found on the Rsabi website.

Eligible farmers will be considered for payments of up to £1,000 per farming family business.

Rsabi chief executive Carol McLaren said the charity had received reports of people who have sustained damage to property, vehicles and fencing.

“The past week has been a very trying one for many farming families in the worst-hit parts of Scotland, as they’ve been trying to recover from one of the greatest sustained periods of heavy rain for decades,” she explains.

“We are launching this fund to show our support to those who have been significantly affected by the flooding.”

The charity is also working alongside Forage Aid to assess the demand for bedding, feed and forage.

“We would encourage anyone who has lost vital supplies needed to feed and bed livestock through the coming winter to please get in touch by emailing forageaid@rsabi.org.uk to allow us to assess the level of demand for a Forage Aid response,” Ms McLaren continued.
