SCATS sells off tackle division

FARMER-owned co-op SCATS is to sell its farm machinery division.

The operation has bases in Kent, Hampshire, Sussex and the Isle of Wight, and is a main distributor for Case, Kverneland, Amazone and Sanderson equipment.

Managing director Tim Pollock says the business, which has an £8m turnover made "significant" losses in the last trading year.

A regional break-up is likely. "I envisage individual buyers acquiring the order book, goodwill and on-going trade on a local basis." A priority, adds Mr Pollock, is to ensure continuity of parts and service supply for existing customers.

If deals are not done by October, the "last resort" alternative of a shutdown will take place, involving about 55 redundancies.n
