Regina should reach average
MARK DIBBLE, manager of the Albrighton Estate near Shrewsbury has started combining Regina winter barley, for feed purposes on the farm.
“It should reach 3t/acre (7.5 t/ha), which is not too bad.” There are 33ha (80 acres) of the crop, and the yield is average for the farm.
There is also 50ha (120 acres) of oilseed rape. The varieties are Apex and Pronto. “These are going to be disappointing and very patchy.”
There were problems in the autumn drilling. This is reflected in the wheat crop, which is also expected to be below par. The farm is based on a sandy clay loam.
