Regina average, rape below

ROBERT SUTTON, who farms at Marnham, Newark in Nottinghamshire has cut 80ha (200 acres) of Regina barley, and is currently making a start on oilseed rape.

He estimates that it has yielded 7.4t/ha (3t/acre). “The bushel looks good, its clean with no small stuff and a good size grain.” He also says that the moisture is low.

2.5ha (6 acres) of Madrigal oilseed rape have been combined. He thinks it will yield below average at 3.3t/ha (1.4t/acre), while the average for the farm is usually 4.3t/ha (1.75t/acre).

“There are good areas of crop, but also areas with problems,” he said. They are roughly up to date for the farm, which is based on a marl soil.
