Princess Anne opens animal disease centre

THE Princess Royal opened the Moredun Foundations International Research Centre, an animal disease research centre, at the Pentlands Science Park, just outside Edinburgh.

It is designed to be at the forefront of efforts to eliminate E coli and bovine spongiform encephalopathy from the food chain.

Lord Sewel, Scottish agricultural minister, refused to be drawn on the likelihood of the Food Standards Agency being set up in the same place.
