Positive response for Farmers Ferry
By FWi staff
CO-ORDINATORS of the Farmers Ferry concept – launched to kick-start live sheep exports between the UK and France – say they have almost 25 per cent of the 1.3m target needed to get the project afloat.
Farmers Ferry chairman Terry Bayliss said he was optimistic that the project would be up and running by the end of July.
A vox pop conducted by Farmers Weekly reporters at this years Royal Show, in Stoneleigh, Warwickshire, revealed that there was mixture of enthusiasm and caution for the project.
Some farmers urged the industry to get behind the project, while others said they were concerned about how the company was constituted. One farmer said his wished the project all the best but said farmer-run companies do not have a good record of success.
