Offer to establish ‘no-go areas’ for badgers

FARMERS have offered to establish “no-go areas” for badgers by removing cattle from parts of the countryside with high numbers of the animals.

Producers have told the government it might be better to abandon large areas of farm land to badgers instead of provoking protests by killing them.

The proposal is intended to stem the upsurge of cattle tuberculosis in the West Country and the Midlands.

Farmers would expect compensation from the government for loss of income in return.
