NFU Cymru campaign seeks public support for Welsh food

NFU Cymru is launching a campaign championing Welsh food and seeking the public’s support for future food production in Wales.

The “Secure the Future of Welsh Food/Diogelu Dyfodol Bwyd Cymru” campaign includes a promotional video, gate banners along key roads in Wales and in food shops, and an online petition where members of the public can pledge their support for Welsh food and farming.

The campaign is timed to coincide with the third annual Welsh Farming Week, which kicks off on Monday 17 June with a series of promotional events.

These include a local stakeholder day, a primary schools initiative titled “The Great Welsh Ice Cream Adventure”, and public engagement event in the centre of Cardiff.

The union is hoping that significant numbers signing the online petition will underline to the government the high level of public support for food produced in Wales.

“Ultimately, we want policymakers to see that the Welsh public want future support to deliver on the production of safe, sustainable, high-quality food produced in Wales,” said NFU Cymru deputy president Abi Reader.
