ONE of farmings most colourful journalists is to have an award named after him in memory of the contribution he made to the industry.

The National Farmers Union has re-named its Presidents Special Award after Daily Telegraph agriculture editor David Brown who died this year.

The Daily Telegraph David Brown Award will commemorate his devotion to painting a realistic picture of farming and horticulture, the union said.

NFU President Ben Gill said the union was saddened to hear of Mr Browns sudden death in August after 38 years in the industry.

It is fitting that this award should be renamed in Davids memory. He worked tirelessly to further the publics understanding of agriculture.

It will be an honour for farmers and growers to remember Davids work over the past decades through this award.

The award will acknowledge a farmer or grower who has made an outstanding contribution to the agricultural industry.

The NFU Presidents Awards are presented annually. The next award ceremony will be held at the unions AGM in February.
