New-season lamb rallies to 130.4p/kg

THE recent rise in lamb prices is largely due to a drop in the number of hogget sales, according to the Meat and Livestock Commission (MLC).
The latest MLC report reports shows that the number of hoggets coming on to the market has slowed dramatically since the first three months of the year.
Liveweight prices have risen as a result, with the new season lamb rallying to 130.4/kg liveweight. But trade in hoggets, remains buoyant, with last weeks average of 106p/kg at Highbridge market only 24p/kg behind.
