New quality controls for animal feeds
By FWi staff
ANYONE manufacturing, selling or using animal feed additives will have to apply for official approval under new regulations announced by Government today.
The new rules apply to manufacturers of feed additives, premixtures and commercial compound feeds, and agricultural merchants and farmers who mix their own feed. The legislation covers additives like vitamins, trace elements and proteins.
Jeff Rooker, junior farm minister, said the new rules had been adopted to safeguard consumers. He said they complement similar controls which already exist for medical feed additives such as antibiotics and growth promoters.
