Mystery investment in pig plant

AN unnamed US company is considering making a major investment in a new plant to process pork in Cumbria.

Jack Stopwith, chief executive of the Cumbria Inward Investment Agency, has disclosed the interest, but declined to name the company.

He confirmed that pig slaughtering would not be involved.

A number of meat processors in the area include Cavaghan & Gray, which supplies Marks & Spencer, and Perkins Foods, which has the UKs biggest sausage factory.
