More suckler cow quota is offered
SUCKLER cow producers in England, including new entrants, can apply for extra quota from the 1998 national reserve from Mar 3.
A combined application form and explanatory leaflet will be available from MAFF regional service centres from that date.
The application period ends on Mar 31, giving unsuccessful claimants time to buy in quota before the Jul 1 start date for SCP claims.
Producers who started farming during 1997 who did not receive an allocation from the 1997 reserve may apply. Other categories include:
• Participants in environmental schemes in 1992 which required a reduction in stock numbers who are now leaving the scheme.
• Producers taking over land from which quota has been removed by departing tenant or share farmer.
• Producers in environmental schemes switching from arable to livestock farming.
• Producers entering the organic aid scheme.
• First time claimants. *
