Maize races towards maturity

MAIZE continues to mature rapidly in most areas. Crops in the south-west appear to be the exception, being more vegetative and moving to-wards harvest slower than the rest of the country.

In East Anglia, light lands are al-ready cat-ching growers and contractors unawares; some crops are ready for harvest with mature cobs and green plants.

A similar situation is expected in the north west, with crops at present about three weeks away from harvest, a long way ahead of last year. &#42
