Link CAP reforms to green schemes

TOP of farm minister Jack Cunninghams agenda during the EU presidency must be environmental aid schemes for EU pro-ducers.

RSPB senior policy officer Jim Dixon is concerned the Agenda 2000 CAP reform document has little detailed information on future environmental policy.

"Dr Cunningham should press for more information and for EU funds to be reallocated from production subsidies to schemes geared to promoting environmental management," said Mr Dixon.

He claimed that only 4% of the CAP budget was allocated to environmentally linked payments and called for an increase to 25%, at least.
