• FARMING charity the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution has distributed more than £170,000 of emergency aid to over 150 farming families during the past year. RABI established its helpline 12 months ago in response to the income crisis affecting all sectors of the industry. Tel 01865-727888.
• OVERSEAS development charity FARM-Africa has appointed Christie Peacock as its new chief executive. She succeeds David Campbell, co-founder and executive director of the charity since its launch in 1985.
Dr Peacock has 20 years experience in project development and management. She joined FARM-Africa in 1988 as co-ordinator for the dairy goat development project in Ethiopia.
• THE Scottish Agricultural College has launched a conservation advisory service called Heartland Conservation. The move follows an ever increasing demand on the college for advice on conservation and environmental matters.
• THE first farmers market in Wales was held today (Friday) in Carmarthen. Cookery demonstrations were organised to highlight the diversity of the local produce on sale at the market. The event was organised by Carmarthenshire County Council and two more are planned.
