Grain market update

Wednesdays trading – 25 February 1998

THE UK market looked weaker from the off as news filtered through that one of the original Bangladeshi sales will now be shipped from Denmark rather than UK. There was still no news of Tuesdays tender to Bangladesh. Barley shipments for February are not being executed at present.

Chicago finished 2¢/bushel lower, with persistent reminders of ample world wheat supplies.

Jordan purchased 50,000 t of optional-origin wheat yesterday for March shipment at around $142.60 C&F.

  • £1=DM 2.984 / FFr 10.00 / $ 1.643
  • French FOB spot wheat value: FFr 805.00 (£ 80.50)
  • Chicago December wheat at close: $ 3.18 (£ 69.67)
