Grain market update

Thursdays trading – 12 February 1998

THE lower French market was reflected in the UK with values briefly touching £1 down. A tender for 150,000 t to Bangladesh is currently being offered and we hope to hear the results later today (Friday) – it is rumoured part could be from the UK, while other origins could be Australia, the USA and Argentina.

Brussels: 28,000 t of wheat at Ecu15.94; no barley.

Chicago finished 0-1¢/bushel higher on a late recovery in corn and on the low volume of EU restitutions granted.

  • £1=DM 2.969 / FFr 9.957 / $ 1.636
  • French FOB spot wheat value: FFr 812.50 (£ 81.60)
  • Chicago December wheat at close: $ 3.33 (£ 73.27)
