Good turn out for Cheviots

NORTH Country Cheviot lambs met a flying trade at Lairg last week when nearly 22,000 went under the hammer.

The first big sale of wether lambs in the live ring for two years were greeted by buyers that levelled trade at £37.10, £10/head better than in 2000. Lambs were in good bloom having summered well, said auctioneer United Auctions, and there was plenty of demand.

The best wethers from Archentoul Shepherds Pack topped at £44. While trade in ewe lambs was also up by £13 on two years ago, settling at £38.75. The top price pens from Inver peaked at £63.50. &#42
