GM spuds in E.coli battle

By FWi staff

A GENETICALLY-MODIFIED potato which could fight deadly bugs is being developed by scientists, reports the Daily Express.

In the past it has proved difficult for vaccines to survive being eaten as they were often broken down by digestive juices, says the newspaper.

But researchers at Loma Linda University in California appear to have overcome this.

A report in the journal Nature Biotechnology says the transgenic potato immunises against a strain of E.coli and the rotavirus bug.
