GM Lord out of jail for holiday
LORD MELCHETT has been released from on bail over his alleged part in an attack on genetically modified (GM) crops in Norfolk.
The executive director of Greenpeace had been the only one of the protestors to be remanded in custody. He was due to go on holiday this week.
His release followed an application to a judge in chambers.
Meanwhile, the High Court in London has given a suspended sentence to another protestor who defied a court order and uprooted a display GM sugar beet.
Martin Shaw, who uprooted the Monsanto beet at Cereals 99 last month, said he would continue sabotaging GM crops.
The debate over GM food also rages on in the columns of The Independent and The Times
