Giving an edge to calves intakes

INCREASE calf concentrate intakes from birth to 12 weeks of age with the appetite stimulant Mooretang Calf Excel-S, says developer David Moore (Flavours).

Calves fed the supplement increased feed intakes by 8.8% to 12 weeks old, eating 10kg a head more than the control group in a trial by Nottingham University, says the company.

Mooretang Calf Excel-S is said to contain natural sweeteners and flavour enhancers to improve palatability.

It costs about £1.50/t to include the supplement in a calf starter ration typically costing about £200/t (01780-764482, fax 01780-764479).
