Free milk cooling units on offer…

DAIRY farmers with between 40 and 150 cows and who are also East Midlands Electricity customers are being offered free milk cooling units worth £600, plus the chance to save milk cooling costs.

Plate heat exchanger milk coolers will be available free to 250 farmers, who will have to install the equipment at a cost of about £250.

EME believes pre-cooling using the equipment on offer could cut electricity bills by £375 a year for a 70-cow herd. Because pre-cooling helps prevent high bacteria levels, milk quality will also improve, says EME.
