Flagship sails in to join MF8100 range
MASSEY Fergusons 8100 tractor series gets a new flagship – due to make its UK debut later this spring is the 230hp MF8170, which now heads the seven-model range.
Power is supplied by a turbocharged, intercooled 8.4-litre, six-cylinder Valmet engine, which achieves its rated power at 2200rpm and, it is claimed, 242hp at 2000rpm.
Equipped with a full powershift transmission, a single lever control provides 17 or 18 forward gears – depending on whether the tractor is formatted for 18.5mph or 25mph – and eight reverse gears. A creep speed option is available.
Directional changes and speed selection is achieved by moving the lever forwards or backwards, with the operator having the choice of either "pulse" speed shifts or automatic sequential changing.
Beefier back axle
A new, beefier back axle design caters for the Cat III hydraulic linkages 10t lift capacity, while the tractors four-wheel drive front axle gives a 50í steering angle. The front axle is also equipped with a limited slip automatic differential lock.
The 8170s rear end comes shod with Kleber 650/85 R38 tyres, which tyre-literate people will recognise as a new size developed by AGCO and Kleber.
For the operator, the cab offers such luxuries as air-conditioning, with transmission and other key operational controls mounted in the right hand arm rest.
The use of MFs Autotronic and Datatronic II management systems are claimed to maximise working efficiency.
Price of the MF8170 is listed at £82,500. *
