NWF Agriculture claims to have the biggest ruminant-only feed mill in the UK after a recent £600,000 development to commission a fourth line at its Wardle Mill in Cheshire.
Output is forecast to be 190,000t this year, compared with 55,000t just five years ago. Managing director, David Warrington, says the growth has been achieved through good service, better product quality and added value services like herd costing schemes.
The plant produces 50t of feed an hour, 24 hours a day for 6.5 days a week, he adds. "We have effectively reduced the impact of fixed costs on the business and this has enabled us to withstand lower prices and reduced operating margins." *
