Farmer killed in explosion at Lancashire dairy farm

A Lancashire dairy farmer tragically died earlier this week following an explosion at a farm in Preston.

Emergency services confirmed the fatal incident occurred on Monday 16 December at a farm in Hothersall Lane, Ribchester, Preston, with investigations underway.

The 51-year-old farmer from Longridge was reportedly in the dairy when a compressor exploded, resulting in fatal injuries.

Lancashire Police were alerted at 6:08am by the ambulance service and attended the scene with other emergency responders.

Despite their efforts, the farmer was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement, Lancashire Police extended their condolences, saying: “Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this very sad time.”

Authorities confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is investigating the circumstances around the death. A HSE spokesperson said: “We are making enquiries into this incident and liaising with Lancashire Police.”

The family of the deceased has requested privacy and has asked the police that his name is not released publicly at this time.
