Welsh minister outlines CAP detail
The Welsh government has written to farmers to allay their fears over the future of direct payments.
Every farmer in Wales will receive the letter from deputy farm minister Rebecca Evans, who sets out recent changes to Pillar 1 payments.
In the letter Mrs Evans explains the changes agreed last month to the way moorland – one of three Pillar 1 payment categories – will be classified.
She said it was important for farmers to understand that moorland will now be classified according to the plant species commonly found growing there.

“All claimants to the scheme should receive a letter explaining the change in more detail and setting out what they need to do if they think they have a case for their land to be reclassified,” said the minister.
Farmers now have the opportunity to demand a review of their land classification. The applications by claimants who have already asked for reclassification will be automatically considered, Mrs Evans confirmed.
Meanwhile, the deadline for applications for the next round of funding under Wales’ farmland environmental management scheme is approaching.
The closing date for Glastir Entry applications for a January 2015 start date is 30 September.
