Fakenham Racecourse backs farmers with ‘tractor parade’
Fakenham Racecourse is stepping up in support of the farming community, inviting farmers to showcase their tractors at the Sky Bet Raceday on Sunday 19 January.
The event, set against the backdrop of government proposals to charge inheritance tax on farms from April 2026, aims to raise awareness of the potential devastation these tax changes could have on traditional farming families.
As Norfolk’s only National Hunt racecourse, Fakenham is a central hub for the region’s farming community, known for its rich agricultural heritage.

In response to the government’s plans, which many fear could force family farms into selling up or cutting operations, Fakenham Racecourse is offering free entry to farmers who bring their tractors to the event.
“We are not protesting, we are showing solidarity,” said David Hunter, chief executive of Fakenham Racecourse.
“This is a fun and exciting day of high-quality racing, with two races shown live on ITV.
“We want to fill the centre of the racecourse with tractors to highlight the deep concern we share with the rural community about the potential impact of inheritance tax changes.”
The event is designed to unite farmers, agricultural businesses, and rural supporters in a show of unity and resilience.
Anyone linked to the farming community – whether young farmers, engineers, crop specialists, or contractors – is encouraged to bring their tractors and join in the fun.
Fakenham’s timely initiative highlights the strong connection between the rural economy and the sport of horse racing, providing both a powerful message and an enjoyable day out for all involved.
