Euro currency will `benefit agriculture

THE single European currency will mean an end to the complex and costly agrimonetary system which converts the range of European Union (EU) farm subsidies from Ecu into national currencies, reports the Financial Times.

It says prices to consumers will be clearer and farmers should also benefit from more transparency in pricing of their supplies and equipment from fertilisers to tractors.

The article, published in a Guide to Economic & Monetary Union, claims the arrive of the euro means more to agriculture, perhaps, than any other commercial sector.
