Eclipse Flo goes for 30,000gns
STAR attraction at last weeks Huddlesford herd dispersal, the legendary show cow Cardsland Eclipse Flo, was sold for 30,000gns.
Winner of two Royal Show titles during an illustrious career, she was bought by a breeder consortium.
Her owners, Lichfield dairy farmers Tom Cope and family, retain a share, although making the winning bid was Robert Musson of the Threelimes herd in Glos, acting for the buying group.
The 10-year-old Flo (Ex-96) has won three inspection awards at the Dairy Farming Event and averaged 15,000kg in her last three lactations. Her eight daughters, two sons and a granddaughter and grand-son, grossed 33,700gns at the sale.
The much admired Blackstar daughter Huddlesford Black Sweet-ness (Ex-92), had just completed a second lactation of over 14,000kg and has a PIN+£97. She heads for John and Valerie Barlows Painley herd in Cheshire at 25,000gns.
Her 11-month-old heifer calf by Etazon Labelle made 10,000gns to Staffs-based Forward Genetics who also claimed the sales highest index cow, Huddlesford Mascot Orchid. She has a PIN+£140 and made 16,000gns.
Minutes later, Staffs breeder Simon Clarke, owner of the Scotchhills herd, paid 20,000gns for Quality SB Truly (Ex-92). This striking young Starbuck cow had been shown successfully in Canada and last year stood supreme in a strong line-up at the Cheshire Show.
Members of the herds Betsy family were in strong demand. The 22 Betsys averaged £2865 peaking at 9000gns for Huddlesford Astre Betsy. This young cow was sold in-calf to Maughlin Storm and joins David Yates and Sons Logan herd at Castle Douglas.
The six Kitty family animals averaged £4583.
