Corn chips contain banned GM maize
By FWi staff
SUPERMARKETS have launched investigations after tests detected banned genetically modified maize in own-brand tortilla chips, reports The Independent.
Analyses commissioned by environmental group Friends of the Earth found Monsantos GA21 maize in Safeways and Asdas chips.
Another GM maize type was found in own-brand chips sold by Sainsburys and Tesco, and GM traces were also found in Phileas Fogg tortilla chips.
Neither variety is approved in the UK.
All the stores claim their own-brand products are GM-free.
