Glasgow-based grain trader Cefetra has invested in a state-of-the-art sorter to remove blackgrass, broken kernels, dust, and chaff from grains and pulses.
The sorter will be located at its site in Sudbury, Suffolk, and it is hoped it will provide a better-quality and more consistent end product.
As the sorter is mobile, it will also be able to be used by other partners in the area.

The Satake Nirami 5 optical sorter uses cameras and sensors to notice subtle colour differences and shape recognition as the grain passes through the machine so it can reject any abnormalities.
Improved accuracy means less good material is lost through the sorting process and manufacturer Satake says it ensures a clean and safe finished product.
John Jarvis, operations manager at Cefetra, said: “Investing a significant six-figure sum in the Satake Nirami 5 sorter underscores our commitment to delivering the highest quality grains and animal feed to our customers.
“This cutting-edge technology allows us to achieve high levels of precision in removing impurities and ensuring product consistency.
“We purchased the sorter to benefit our farmers so they get a better yield quality and can remove issues such as blackgrass to generate a higher yield.”
