Cattle feed claimed to cut methane
By FWi staff
FEEDING cattle a bacterium that can convert methane into carbon dioxide would help reduce global warming, scientists claim.
Cows are thought to be responsible for almost one-third of all production of methane – a gas which makes a major contribution to climate change.
But researchers at the Rowett Institute in Aberdeen believe they can cut cattles output, The Express reports.
The researchers found that when they added the bacterium to the diet of three sheep, methane production went down by around 17%.
They calculate that this could reduce Europes methane output by 4-5%.
