Cancellation-hit Royal Welsh Show site to host campers
The site which hosts the Royal Welsh Show is being transformed into a campsite this summer after the coronavirus pandemic forced the cancellation of the 2021 event.
The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society (RWAS) is opening the showground, in Llanelwedd, to caravanners and campers from 28 May.
The concept was trialled last year when part of the showground was opened as a temporary caravan site for three weeks in August.

The RWAS is marketing the site as one that is “within easy access to many footpaths and bridleways with breathtaking scenic views”.
It adds: “With the Elan Valley to the north and the Brecon Beacons to the south, this ideal location is perfect for those wanting to enjoy outdoor pursuits across Mid Wales.”
The initiative will be an important plug in the RWAS’ finances ahead of the Royal Welsh Show returning in 2022.
The RWAS said it would launch its booking site shortly. The campsite will operate until 14 June.
“We look forward to the recovery of tourism here in Mid Wales and across the UK this summer, and hope the hospitality and tourism sector can bounce back from what has been a turbulent time in our industries,’’ said the RWAS.
There has been a surge in demand for holiday bookings in Wales since the easing of Covid-19 restrictions.
