Bidding is lively for good HFs at NW breeders club show

A LIVELY trade was seen at the North Western Holstein Frie-sian Breeders Clubs monthly show and sale at Crewe, with 35 active buyers taking the heifer average to £956.
The days most sought after entry was Bringlee Ugela Pixie 3rd, a calved heifer out of a Llydan Criterion-sired dam consigned by Lees Dairy Farmers, Market Drayton, Shropshire. She was giving 32.8kg on the day and was chosen as champion by Cheshire judge Wilfred Thomas who runs the Leesmanor herd at Middlewich.
Pixie 3rd made 1700gns to J P Millington for his Felton herd at Oswestry, Shropshire and joined another purchase – Horwood Norah 95th from W A Hall Herds, Buckingham – at 1250gns.
Escott Cinder Tulip 34th, a February calved heifer by High-light Mr Mark Cinder and out of a Rocket dam, made 1500gns. She was offered by A Boughey and Sons, Myddle, Shrewsbury and was one of 10 taken by D J Carter and Son, Swindon.
The Boulet Charles calved heifer Fennshall Charles Burobis 2nd from W A Jones and Son, Whitchurch stood reserve champion and made 1480gns to D R and C F Cantrill, Stafford. The same buyers also gave 1420gns for Leicestershire-based Dixon Smith (Lyons) Ltds Lyons Hannah, an Etazon Ferrari calved heiferout of a 9300kg Prelude dam.
Lancashire buyers J B and J B Lawson, Cockerham paid 1320gns for Threelimes Clara 18th, a Browndale Stardust calved heifer from R S Musson and Son, Forthampton, Glos.
Two 1250gns bids were the days best for Tom Jolly and Partners, Great Eccleston, Lancs, staunch supporters of this sale. Their Fieldside Dandy Lass 17th (Astre Starbuck) went to Messrs Carter, Swindon and Fieldside Electric Baby 294th (Calbrett Amazon) went to Messrs Shutt and Mansell, Newport, Shrop-shire.
